WHAT OUR PARENTS SAY
Really caring nursery and always there to help me out. My granddaughter loves it there. Really lovely staff who my granddaughter adores. Could not be happier with the service they provide. Good update emailed each day about what they have been up to.
We have sent all three of our children here over the last 5 years and are very happy with the care they have received and the overall standard of the nursery. I would recommend them to any parents looking for a trustworthy nursery.
My daughter started in the preschool room and had never previously been to a nursery so I was very worried about how she would settle but all the staff have been amazing and given her all the patience, encouragement, and support she has needed to feel secure and now she talks about them at home all the time. She has loved spending time with the ducks in the garden and this is definitely a highlight of her day. I love I get a full update of her day including pictures via the app so I can see just how much she enjoys her time at nursery. The activities she gets up to are always exciting and varied so I know she is having the best day while there. Thank you to all staff for making her feel so welcome at Abingdon Kindergarten.
Our Aim
We aim to provide a safe, caring environment where children can develop self-help skills and are encouraged to become socially adept at the appropriate development stage. The children’s learning needs as well as their personal, social and physical requirements are respected and catered for so that they can utilize their potential to the best of their ability.
Our aim is to make learning an enjoyable, exciting and challenging experience which will give a good foundation for many “Happy Learning” years ahead.
The habits and skills developed in early years will help them to concentrate and work efficiently for a lifetime, no matter where they go. We offer peace of mind to each parent by providing the highest standards of childcare and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years.
First five years
We know that the first five years of a child’s life are crucial learning years for future development. Therefore each child is given the opportunity to strengthen positive attitudes towards themselves and others.
Research has shown that in early years, learning plays a crucial role in the development of the intellect, self-esteem and self-confidence. We feel that from an early age the children in our care are given the opportunity to experience well planned activities for all areas of their learning, helping children to feel confident and self-assured and to enjoy being with others.
Learning to talk and communicate is an important skill for the very young child to master. We place the emphasis on listening and sensitively responding to babies and toddlers, prompting language through stories, rhymes and toys, encouraging curiosity for the world around them and helping them to respond to new sensations with items to feel, touch and hold. We aim to make sure that children are emotionally secure at all times whilst able to enjoy the freedom to make decisions.
Staff & Security
The security and safety is of utmost importance, children are only released to those individuals listed on the records of the enrolling parent. If someone other than the parents is to collect a child we expect to be introduced to that individual in advance. In an emergency we would expect you to telephone us and make us aware of who is to collect your child and to agree on a password so that we are certain that the person is known to your child.
Our staff are carefully chosen, not simply for their experience and qualifications but for their ability to work in a team and above all for their commitment and empathy towards the children. All staff (except managers) are required to wear the Abingdon Kindergarten’s uniform which identifies them to parents and children. Prior to starting employment with us, all staff are thoroughly screened by the Disclosure & Barring Service.
Parents/Teachers/Nursery Triangle
We encourage parents to participate in their child’s progress. To further parent/teacher communications we schedule 1-1 meetings with each parent yearly and every 4 months parents do get an updated summery of Observation Checkpoints
The parent/teacher triangle is an Integral part of the healthy development of each child. Sound relationships are formed from –the beginning and are built on throughout the child’s time at the nursery.
Key worker staff is available to discuss any concerns on a daily basis and a diary completed for each child.
Parents
A Great Choice
We realise there are many child care centres to choose from and we know that choosing the right one can be a painstaking decision for all parents. Therefore, we invite you to discover what so many have found to be true. You can rely upon Abingdon Kindergarten staff for love, understanding, professionalism and high standards
We know that your priority is to find a nursery that offers the right setting for your child. At Abingdon Kindergarten we devote our energy to creating a fun and loving environment whilst delivering the best in childcare and education.
Our friendly trained staff are focused on providing fun and education. They work to ensure your child develops as an individual while helping to nurture and encourage learning through discovery and enjoyment.
We pride ourselves in understanding the importance of instilling confidence and enthusiasm from an early age. We want children to feel secure and happy from the start so they can’t wait to come back!
What Age?
Best ethos are practiced throughout the nursery; this is evident from the calm atmosphere and positive interaction of children and staff. Children’s independence is encouraged from an early age.
They will begin with simple self-help skills and exercises based on activities which all children enjoy. The equipment which they use at age 3 and 4 will help develop their concentration, coordination and working habits necessary for the more advanced exercises they will perform at age 5 and 6.
It is this unique cycle of learning, designed to take advantage of a child’s sensitive years between the ages of three and six, which will help them absorb information from an enriched environment in later years.
Although the entrance age varies in individual nursery schools, a child can usually enter a classroom between the age of two and a half and four years of age, depending on when they can be happy and comfortable in a classroom. At Abingdon Kindergarten the entrance age is 3 months.
Holiday and Nursery Closure
For the convenience of working parents, Abingdon Kindergarten is open from 7.30 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday all year round and closes only on Bank and Public holidays and 5 working days at Christmas.
(Extended opening hours form 7.30 am to 6.30 pm available on request.)
EYFS
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Children, who begin their education in a learning environment that is vibrant, purposeful, challenging and supportive, stand the best chance of developing into confident and successful learners. At Abingdon Kindergarten we will ensure that through play your child will learn, grow and have fun. Children learn best through play which helps them understand the world and to develop socially and emotionally whilst learning in a fun environment with adults who understand and care about them.
We believe that children deserve the best possible start in life as they develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives years than at any other time. That’s why they are called the foundations years – the building blocks for life!.
The Early Years Foundation Stage which is a quality framework sets the standards for Learning, Development, and Care for children from birth to five. Our play based curriculum covers all the areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Development Matters document guides staff in observing, assessing and supporting each child’s development and individual needs.
Our spacious rooms provide the opportunity for the children to access a variety of activities. A good nursery experience gives a child a flying start to their life-long learning and equips them to work in a team, to co-operate and share and to form long lasting friendships and partnerships during their time at school. At Abingdon Kindergarten we are committed to working in partnership with parents in order to provide a caring, safe and stimulating environment which supports each child to reach their full potential during the first stage of their life.

Communication and Language
At Abingdon Kindergarten we provide opportunities for your child to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
Physical Development
We encourage children to be active and interactive; to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. During physical activities their fine and gross motors skills will be developed, including balance and co-ordination. Children will also be able to make healthy choices in relation to food and learn about healthy eating.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Staff will provide children with experiences and support which will help them develop confidence in their own abilities, a positive sense of themselves and others, respect for themselves and others, develop social skills, learn how to manage their feelings and understand appropriate behaviour in groups.
Mathematics
The children will be encouraged to link sounds and letters and begin to read and write. They will be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.
Expressive Arts and Design
Children are able to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as provided with opportunities for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play and design and technology.
Understanding of the World
We support and guide children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
